Repository of innovations in teaching host country language to migrants and refugees

The Repository aims at bringing ideas and practices in teaching host countries’ language to migrants and refugees and to stimulate new thinking and experimentation.
The Repository expanded the partners' knowledge on the core subject and at the same time it provided a unique tool available to all those who are researching and working in the field, within the wider educational community, across Europe.    
The Repository offers ideas for the selection of the Lingua+ practices.

Practices on social inclusion - O2

The Study contributed to provide insights on the relevance of embedding the teaching of the host country language into approaches and practices that stimulate intercultural dynamics, socio-cultural approaches and empathy.

The Study served a three-fold purpose:  a) expanding the partners’ knowledge on the subject;
b) provide practical examples that can be adapted to language teaching (e.g.: drama and multi-art forms used as practices for social inclusion can be adapted to language learning);
c) providing food for thought on the distinctive focus of Lingua+ which is combining language teaching with a special emphasis on social inclusion practices.

The Study has the form of a multimedia document. It will be an OER with Creative Commons (CC) license, for all those with an interest in such a needed area of intervention across Europe and beyond.  

The Handbook will contain theoretical clues and analysis of adult language learning for migrants and refugees (challenges and needs). It will delineate  the Lingua+ methodological approaches and will provide for a in-depth introduction to the practices, lesson plan templates and assessment tools.
The Handbook will be an Open Educational Resource, under Creative Commons (CC) license and will be freely available on the platform.

Lingua+ Learning Paths Multimedia presentation

A vibrant multimedia tool that will contain the  Lingua+ practices grouped into Learning Paths.
While in Output 3, the practices were only listed,  in Output 4 these will be  described in detail, accompanied by audio and video files, completed with recommended reading and links.  

Output 4 will be also an Open Educational Resource, made available on the platform.

Lingua+ Teacher Training Course Guide and MOOC

The Guide will provide the basis of the programme that will enable teachers with know-how on Lingua+ methods and practices through F2F training. This will be completed by a MOOC for online training through the EPALE portal of the Commission.

Output 5 will build on Output 3 and 4. The output has a great potential for transferability as it will be used for new regular training offers within the partner institutions and will be included as Lingua+ Course in the School Education Gateway of the Commission. The Course will also be offered to NGOs, centres, associations deealing with teaching host country language to migrants and refugees.The Lingua+ MOOC, being an online course, will have the potential of reaching an even larger number of users.

The Guide will  be uploaded on the project platform and will be an Open Educational Resource of  Lingua+,  under Creative Commons (CC) license, for the benefit of trainers, teachers, volunteers, language experts, policy makers in Europe and beyond.   

Web 2.0 Platform

This Platform includes the project Open Educational Resouces  and the link to the EPALE Portal of the European Commission where you can find the Lingua+ MOOC.

Mobile App

The mobile app will facilitate the widest possible dissemination of project results and will contribute to the establishment of a vivid community of users that will continue to use and extend the project results beyond the funding period.

In particular the mobile app will be designed in order to provide functionality to:

1. Create and manage elements of collection of practices.
2. A database of words, phonemes, culture-specific information, symbols, questions/answers.   
3. Facilities to create lesson plans based on a selection of practices that a user wants to use for a specific purpose or in a specific context.

The overall design of the mobile app will pay special emphasis on its educational use linking to learning subjects such as foreign language learning, multicultural awareness, cultures connected to languages, cohesion and empathy games, listening and togetherness dimension.
